Well done David Davis

by semafu @ 2008-06-16 - 16:02:45

David Davis resigned to draw our attention to the erosion of UK civil liberties by the Labour government. Here are some:

-

Police have the power to stop and search without having reasonable suspicion.

Police can search the home of an arrested (but not charged) person without a warrant.

Outlawing of protests within 1mile of parliament.

Surveillance – 1 camera for every 14 people.

Phone/mobile phone companies retain every conversation for 1 year. ISP to follow with all internet traffic, emails etc.

The Police have powers of arrest without warrant, which make all offences, no matter how trivial, into arrestable offences

People can be detained without charge for 42 days was 28, previously 14.

Police can collect finger prints and DNA from people – even when those people are never charged or are acquitted. The database contains 4.1 million people. Including 1.1 million never found guilty of a crime. It is the largest in the world.

The government keeps records of “non-convictions” until the subject reaches 100 years old.

ID cards - enough said.

-

Socialists are by nature control freaks, they don't like individuality, they want conformity and obedience to the state. There will only be more attacks on civil liberties. People need to wake up - NOW.

When you list them like this it just gets scarier and scarier.
I for one will be refusing an ID card and hopefully I will never have to unwillingly hand over any samples of my DNA to the Police.
Good post
